How to create a QR code

A QR code stores the text or link encoded inside it. A static QR code does not expire by itself; it keeps pointing to the same address as long as the target URL works. Testing before print is essential.

Does a QR code last forever?

The data inside the QR code does not change. If it contains a direct URL, it will keep opening that URL. If the domain expires, the page moves or the link is deleted, the QR still scans but the destination may fail.

  • A static QR code does not expire by itself; the destination link must stay live.
  • If you change domains, old printed QR codes keep pointing to the old address.
  • For print, choose a short and durable URL that you can maintain.

Print checklist

Make sure the code is large enough, has quiet space around it and uses strong contrast. Test with real devices before printing on menus, posters, cards or packaging.

  • Dark code on a light background usually scans faster.
  • Leave quiet space around the code and avoid placing it too close to edges.
  • Test with at least two different phones before sending to print.

Traffic and measurement

QR codes bring offline attention to your site. Short links or UTM parameters make it easier to see which campaign generated visits.

The strongest content angle here is durability, testing, print safety and campaign measurement: practical long-tail questions with clearer intent.
